Understand internet needs for the Digital SAT.
Digital Device Requirements
A stable internet connection is essential for a smooth testing experience on the Digital SAT. This guide outlines the key network requirements, preparation steps, and backup strategies to help you avoid interruptions on test day.
While continuous connectivity is not required during the entire exam, the Digital SAT—administered through the Bluebook™ application—relies on the internet at specific points:
Before the Test:
An internet connection is necessary to download the exam and complete the initial setup process.
After the Test:
Once you finish the exam, the connection is needed to submit your responses.
The system is designed to tolerate brief disconnections during the test so that short outages will not disrupt your exam.
To ensure smooth operation, especially in environments where multiple tests are being administered simultaneously, it is recommended that each student has at least 100 Kbps of bandwidth. This level of connectivity supports the necessary communication between your device and the testing platform during setup and score submission.
For a seamless testing process, consider the following network settings:
Wi-Fi Availability:
Make sure that students and staff have reliable access to the Wi-Fi network on test day. This includes ensuring that both school-provided and personal devices can connect without issues.
Firewall Settings:
Adjust your network’s firewall to permit traffic to and from College Board domains and the Apple App Store. These settings are crucial for both the download and operation of the Bluebook application.
Verifying your device and network readiness ahead of time can prevent last-minute issues:
Install the Bluebook Application:
Download and install the Bluebook app on your testing device well in advance of your scheduled test date.
Complete the Exam Setup Process:
Run the exam setup within Bluebook 1–5 days before your test. This process not only downloads the exam but also confirms that your device meets all necessary system requirements. Following this, the app will generate your admission ticket, which you must bring on test day.
Despite thorough preparation, it is wise to have contingencies in case of unexpected connectivity problems:
Secondary Internet Connection:
Arrange access to a backup source, such as a mobile hotspot, to use if your primary internet fails.
Device Preparedness:
Ensure that your testing device is fully charged and consider bringing a power cord or battery backup to avoid power-related interruptions during the exam.
By understanding and preparing for the internet and connectivity requirements of the Digital SAT, you can minimize the risk of technical issues on test day. Follow these guidelines to ensure that your device and network are ready, and be prepared with backup plans to handle any unforeseen connectivity challenges. This proactive approach will help you focus on performing your best on the exam.
