Explanation of Digital SAT scoring methods.
SAT Overview
Understanding the scoring system of the Digital SAT is essential for effective preparation and performance evaluation. Below is a comprehensive overview of how the scoring process works.
The Digital SAT comprises two main sections:
Each section is divided into two modules. The test uses a multistage adaptive testing model:
First Module:
Contains a mix of easy, medium, and hard questions.
Second Module:
The difficulty adjusts based on your performance in the first module.
This adaptive approach is designed to provide a more precise assessment of your abilities.
Raw Scores:
Each correct answer earns one point, with no penalties for incorrect or unanswered questions.
Scaled Scores:
Raw scores are converted to scaled scores ranging from 200 to 800 for each section (Reading and Writing, and Math). The total score ranges from 400 to 1600.
To ensure fairness across different test versions, the College Board uses a statistical process called "equating." This method adjusts scores based on the test's difficulty, ensuring that scores are comparable across various test administrations.
After completing the Digital SAT, you receive a detailed score report that includes:
Section Scores:
Scaled scores for Reading and Writing, and for Math.
Total Score:
The sum of the two section scores.
Percentile Ranks:
This shows how your performance compares to that of other test-takers.
Subscores:
These provide insight into specific skill areas to help you identify strengths and areas for improvement.
