SAT Overview
Understanding the structure of the SAT is essential for effective preparation and confidence on test day. The SAT is divided into two primary sections: Reading and Writing and Math. Each section is designed to assess specific skills and knowledge areas. Below is a detailed breakdown of the SAT structure and what students can expect.
The SAT is structured to evaluate a range of academic skills through its two main sections. The test adopts a multistage adaptive format, meaning that each section is divided into modules where performance in the initial module impacts the difficulty level of subsequent ones. This design ensures that the assessment accurately reflects a student’s abilities.
Note: The Reading and Writing section is adaptive, meaning that the performance in the first module influences the difficulty of the second module.
The SAT utilizes a multistage adaptive testing model. Each section is divided into two modules, and the performance in the first module determines the difficulty level of the second. This adaptive approach aims to provide a more accurate assessment of a student's abilities by tailoring the difficulty based on demonstrated performance.
A 10-minute break is provided between the Reading and Writing section and the Math section. This break allows students to rest and reset before continuing with the remainder of the test.
