What is the evidence-first method for SAT Reading questions?
The evidence-first method involves starting with the question stem to identify its unit of analysis, then retrieving only a small evidence window of 2-5 lines before and after cited lines. You test each answer choice against that quoted or paraphrased evidence, eliminating any option that requires extra assumptions or adds intensity beyond what the text supports. The goal is to prioritize text fidelity over plausibility by treating each question as a mini proof: Claim, Evidence, Elimination.
