Originally founded as a nursing school in 1912, the institution expanded into Baptist College of Health Sciences in 1994 and was elevated to university status in 2023. BHSU offers bachelor’s and graduate programs in nursing, medical laboratory science, diagnostic medical sonography, health administration, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM). The urban campus at 1003 Monroe Avenue serves approximately 755 students, with a 7:1 student‑faculty ratio emphasizing hands‑on clinical training and small class sizes. Accredited by SACSCOC, BHSU is known for its partnerships with Baptist Memorial Health Care facilities throughout the Mid‑South, providing immersive real‑world experiences. In 2024, BHSU launched its College of Osteopathic Medicine, becoming the second medical school in Tennessee to offer the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.
