Founded in 1749 and named for George Washington and Robert E. Lee, Washington and Lee University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, it offers over 40 majors within a rigorous liberal arts curriculum. The 350‑acre campus in the Shenandoah Valley features historic Georgian and Gothic Revival architecture—such as Washington Hall and Lee Chapel—and is home to approximately 1,850 students from 49 states and 50 countries.
