Spalding University traces its origins to Nazareth Academy founded in 1814 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Bardstown, Kentucky, and has evolved into Louisville’s only downtown university with an urban 24‑acre campus. The institution enrolls approximately 1,596 students and offers over 66 associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, specialist’s, and doctoral degree programs in health sciences, nursing, education, business, and the arts. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Spalding emphasizes community engagement, experiential learning, and small class sizes. Its Golden Eagles compete in NCAA Division III athletics within the SLIAC conference.

Spalding University operates a test-optional admission policy: SAT or ACT scores are not required for undergraduate admission, with automatic admission based on a minimum high school GPA of 2.0 and placement in the Eagles Scholars Program for students with GPAs of 2.0–2.49. Applicants may submit scores for academic planning and scholarship eligibility. International applicants may use an SAT I Critical Reading score of 450 or higher to demonstrate English proficiency but may also submit TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores instead.
