Galen College of Nursing is a private for-profit nursing college founded in 1989 by Humana Health Institutes, Inc., originally known as Galen Health Institutes, with its main campus in Louisville, Kentucky, and multiple instructional sites nationwide . Accredited by SACSCOC, ACEN, and CCNE, the college offers practical nursing (LPN/LVN), associate, bachelor’s, and master’s nursing programs designed to prepare graduates for licensure and advanced practice. In 2005, Galen expanded from its one-year LPN program to include the Associate of Science in Nursing and adopted its current name; HCA Healthcare acquired a majority stake in 2020 to support further growth . The institution emphasizes hands-on training through state-of-the-art simulation labs and clinical partnerships, resulting in high NCLEX pass rates. In June 2025, SACSCOC placed Galen on warning status due to compliance issues, although the college remains accredited and operational.
