Founded in 1867, Howard University is a private, historically black research university that offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees across 14 schools and colleges. For the 2023‑24 undergraduate admissions cycle, Howard University has adopted a test‑optional policy; SAT or ACT test scores are not required to render a first‑year application complete, and students who choose not to submit scores will not be at a disadvantage in the admission process. This policy extends to Karsh STEM and Honors programs but does not apply to joint‑degree programs such as BS/MD, BS/DDS, or BA/JD, nor to scholarship determinations that require academic evidence. Applicants who submit test scores must provide official reports directly from the testing agency.
