Founded in 1871 as the first black land-grant college in the United States, Alcorn State University enrolls approximately 2,933 students across its seven schools, offering over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs including a STEM MBA and comprehensive nursing and business curricula. The university’s 1,756-acre rural campus near the Mississippi Delta features modern facilities, extensive research centers, and the only comprehensive nursing program at an HBCU in Mississippi. Alcorn is accredited by SACSCOC and is a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Space-grant consortia.

Alcorn State University strongly encourages submission of SAT or ACT scores for placement and scholarship consideration, and undergraduates with lower GPAs (2.0–2.99) must meet minimum ACT/SAT thresholds (e.g., ACT 16–18 or equivalent SAT) for full admission, whereas students with higher GPAs may qualify without test scores.
