Founded in 1908 as the University of Omaha, UNO became part of the University of Nebraska System in 1968 and is classified as “R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity.” It enrolls over 15,000 students across more than 200 programs offered through six colleges, including liberal arts, business, engineering, education, public affairs, and health professions. UNO’s 534‑acre campus features the Peter Kiewit Institute, Baxter Arena, and the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, emphasizing experiential learning and community engagement. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, the university partners with local industries and organizations to drive workforce development in the Omaha metropolitan area. Its Mavericks compete in NCAA Division I athletics as members of the Summit League.
SAT Scores are required for some programs

First‑year applicants must complete 16 minimum core course units and meet one of the following: a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0, top 50% class rank, ACT composite score of 20+, or SAT score of 1040+. Applicants meeting GPA or rank criteria may apply without submitting test scores; those who do not must provide ACT or SAT results for admission evaluation and scholarship consideration.
