Founded in 1851 in Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota is the flagship campus of the University of Minnesota system and a major research institution. The Twin Cities campus enrolls over 51,000 students across undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs in 19 colleges and schools. As a land-grant institution, it offers a breadth of programs from liberal arts to engineering, medicine, law, and agriculture. The university is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and competes athletically as the Golden Gophers in the Big Ten Conference.

International students follow separate English proficiency requirements via TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent. This test-optional policy is temporary through Fall 2027.
