Founded in 1866 as the Maryland State Normal School, Towson University has grown into a comprehensive regional university enrolling over 19,500 students across undergraduate and graduate programs. The 328‑acre suburban campus, located eight miles north of Baltimore, comprises six academic colleges offering more than 110 undergraduate and 60 graduate degrees in fields ranging from business and education to health professions and the arts. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, TU is known for its strong programs in business, education, nursing, and its Honors College, as well as extensive study‑abroad and research opportunities. Its Division I athletics teams, the Towson Tigers, compete in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Towson University is permanently test‑optional; SAT or ACT scores are not required for admission or scholarship consideration. Applicants who choose to submit their scores will have them considered but will not be penalized if they decline; submitted scores must be sent officially by College Board or ACT by the relevant deadlines.
