Founded in 1855 as New Jersey’s first normal school, TCNJ moved to its present 2000 Pennington Road campus in Ewing Township in the 1930s and now enrolls over 7,300 students across seven schools offering more than 50 undergraduate and several graduate programs. Accredited by MSCHE and affiliated with Sea‑grant and Space‑grant, the university emphasizes liberal arts education via general education requirements and a 12:1 student‑faculty ratio set within Georgian‑revival architecture. TCNJ is ranked among the top regional public universities in the North and is classified as a Master’s Colleges and Universities I institution by Carnegie. The campus features historic Green Hall, modern lab facilities, and robust study abroad and research initiatives, including a 7‑year BS/MD pathway.

TCNJ is test‑optional for first‑year applicants through the 2025‑26 cycle; SAT or ACT scores may be submitted to support scholarship and placement. Applicants to Nursing and Seven‑Year Medical Programs must submit official SAT/ACT results, and engineering applicants are encouraged to submit math scores for early placement. Multiple test dates are superscored.
