SAT University Admissions Guide
Also known as: SMCM, National Public Honors College
Public school in St. Mary’s City, Maryland, United States of America
St. Mary’s College of Maryland is one of only two public honors colleges in the United States, offering 21 majors and 29 minors to approximately 1,600 students on a scenic riverside campus. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, SMCM maintains a 9:1 student‑to‑faculty ratio and emphasizes experiential learning through interdisciplinary core curricula and civic engagement. Its internationally recognized Historical Archaeology Field School operates in partnership with Historic St. Mary’s City, integrating Maryland’s first colonial capital into hands‑on research opportunities. The college’s small size and holistic approach foster a close-knit, student‑centered community committed to academic excellence and public service.
SAT Scores are required for some programs
This university requires SAT Scores for some programs.
Beginning with the Fall 2021 entering class, SMCM adopted a test‑optional policy allowing applicants with traditional high school records to choose whether to submit SAT or ACT scores; self‑reported scores suffice initially and official scores are collected if students enroll. However, homeschooled applicants, those from non‑traditional academic settings, and applicants required to demonstrate English proficiency must submit standardized test scores for admission review. SMCM encourages applicants who feel their scores reflect their academic abilities to submit them but does not require them for most applicants.
Some programs or scholarships may still recommend or require SAT scores. Always verify the latest admission criteria on the official university website.
