Founded in 1890 by the Second Morrill Land‑Grant Act, Savannah State University (SSU) enrolls approximately 2,945 students (Fall 2022) on its 401‑acre coastal campus in Savannah. A member of the University System of Georgia and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, SSU offers baccalaureate and graduate programs across four colleges: Business Administration; Liberal Arts & Social Sciences; Sciences & Technology; and Education. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC), SSU emphasizes experiential learning, marine and environmental research, and strong community engagement. Notable campus landmarks include historic Hill Hall, the Tiger Arena athletics facility, and the Georgia Museum of Agriculture. SSU fields NCAA Division II Tigers and Lady Tigers teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

SAT Scores are required for some programs
This university requires SAT Scores for some programs.
SSU requires official SAT or ACT scores from applicants with a recalculated high school GPA below 3.0 and at least 480 EBRW and 440 Math (ACT 17 in each) for full admission; applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or above may apply test‑optional. SSU super‑scores the highest section results and does not require writing scores. Applicants must also complete the Required High School Curriculum, and international students must meet English proficiency standards.
