Founded in 1999 under Act 151 to serve the Mississippi River parishes, RPCC began with classes in a firehouse and local church before expanding to multiple campuses. Accredited by SACSCOC, RPCC now includes a consolidated Gonzales campus at 925 West Edenborne Parkway, offering career‑focused certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in fields like process technology, instrumentation, and healthcare. It was named the fastest‑growing community college of its size in 2010 and continues to partner with industry to align programs with regional workforce needs. RPCC serves nearly 4,000 credit and 3,700 non‑credit students annually across its Gonzales, Reserve, St. Charles, and Westside campuses.

RPCC maintains open admissions; SAT or ACT scores are accepted for placement and may waive the Accuplacer test when scores are dated within three years. Students without qualifying scores complete Accuplacer for course placement.
