Founded in 1907 as Miss Mary Nesbitt’s Grammar School and later chartered as a college in 1909, Olivet Nazarene University moved to Bourbonnais in the late 1930s and is affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. It enrolls 3,255 students (2,519 undergraduates and 736 postgraduates as of fall 2022) and offers bachelor's degrees in 67 majors along with graduate and adult degree‑completion programs. ONU’s 250‑acre suburban campus includes the annual Regional Celebrate Life gathering, and its 21 varsity teams, the Tigers, compete in NAIA conferences. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and maintains an endowment of $45.1 million.
