Founded in 1861 by Norwegian immigrants and affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Luther College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It enrolls approximately 1,744 undergraduates on its 175‑acre main campus and adjoining 825‑acre field research area, offering more than 60 majors in disciplines such as music, sciences, and education. As a member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, Luther emphasizes experiential learning through field research, internships, and internationally touring music ensembles like the Nordic Choir. The campus blends historic collegiate Gothic architecture with modern facilities including the Center for Faith and Life and Sampson Hoffland Laboratories, and its athletics teams, the Norse, compete in NCAA Division III.
