Established on March 18, 1968 and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, DMACC serves over 20,000 credit students across six campuses in Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Newton, Des Moines, and West Des Moines. The college offers more than 200 programs in fields such as business, health sciences, and technical trades, and is a Space‑grant institution fostering research and service learning. DMACC provides flexible day, evening, weekend, and online classes, and partners with local employers and universities to support transfer pathways and workforce development. Its primary Ankeny Campus features modern labs, a student activities center, and athletics competing in NJCAA Division I as the Bears.

DMACC employs an open‑enrollment admissions policy and does not require SAT or ACT scores for admission; applicants need only submit a high school diploma or equivalent. Standardized tests may be used for course placement but are not considered in admissions decisions.
