Guidance for international students applying for SAT accommodations.
Accommodations Guide
International students with documented disabilities or medical conditions that impact their test-taking abilities are eligible to apply for SAT accommodations. The College Board provides a structured process to ensure equitable access to the exam for all students, regardless of location.
International students must meet the same eligibility criteria as U.S. students to qualify for SAT accommodations. This includes:
Documented Disability:
A formal diagnosis from a qualified professional showing that the disability significantly affects test performance.
Need for Specific Accommodations:
Clear evidence demonstrating that specific accommodations are necessary to address the functional limitations caused by the disability.
Comprehensive Documentation:
Submission of medical evaluations, educational plans, or other documentation that supports the need for accommodations.
Note: Limited English proficiency alone does not qualify a student for accommodations.
For detailed guidelines on documentation requirements, refer to the College Board's documentation guidelinesCollege Board's documentation guidelines.
As of March 2023, the SAT is administered digitally for international students. This transition has introduced several features designed to support students with accommodations:
Assistive Technology Compatibility:
The digital platform supports screen readers, text-to-speech software, and other assistive technologies.
Built-In Tools:
The platform offers adjustable font sizes, a built-in calculator, and an integrated timer for enhanced usability.
Flexible Scheduling:
Students approved for extended time can complete the test in one day, reducing fatigue associated with multi-day testing.
Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the digital testing platform, BluebookBluebook, to ensure a smooth test-day experience.
